Funny Dressing Game Putting on Mismatched Clothes
A couple have gone viral after their hilarious date night saw them spending $10 on clothes for each other and giving each other false names.
Why you need to look after your vocal health - and how to do it
Noel Pauley and her husband Shane, who are parents to a baby girl, try to go on a date night one night a week. As they only have the one night, they always try to make them fun.
Shane had heard of a couple who went to Goodwill, a charity clothing store, and picked outfits out for their date nights. The couple just had to try it for themselves.
To make it even more fun, they picked outfits out for each other – and made a rule that each person absolutely had to wear what the other picked.
In a recent blog post, Noel explained that there were a few rules that come with this particular date night.
Rule one was that they could only have $10 to spend on each item in Goodwill, and there would be no argument over what the other person chose for you. Noel said: 'This was so much fun. We found some crazy stuff in Goodwill and made each other try on outfits until we found the perfect one.'
'This cued the insane laughter from the start of the date night. My husband is absolutely goofy so as you can imagine I tried on some CRAZY outfits. We ended up only spending $13 for both masterpieces.'
The second rule was that once they left Goodwill, they didn't talk about it.
Noel explained: 'We had to resume date night as normal and pretend like we had no idea our outfits were off the wall.
'We went to Longhorn for dinner so of course we had to wait for a table. The minute we got out of the car we had to put on our game faces. People were snickering as they walked by and we got a lot of side eye from the hostess.
'Again, to most people's surprise, NO ONE said a word to us about our outfits. Everyone just looked and laughed behind our backs I'm sure.'
And finally, rule three was that both Shane and Noel had to pick fake names – and go by them all evening.
'This didn't start as a rule but after we saw the outfits we knew it had to happen', explained Noel.
'When I walked out of the dressing room Shane said "Ethel get your choir book and come on" and from that point on I was stuck with Ethel. And really, who wears more plaid than a "Roger" which I affectionately shortened to "Rog" in front of our waiter.'
Noel and Shane had a brilliant time playing other people for the night – so much so that Noel said they hadn't laughed as hard in a long time. It's something she would suggest other fun-loving couples do to add a bit of fun to their marriage, also.
In her blog post, she wrote: 'Marriage is tough, parenting is tough, and honestly life is tough. But everything is better when you're doing it with your best friend.'
Noel told Metro.co.uk that the date night was 'so much fun'.
She said: 'We had a secret that was just ours and we laughed so hard through the whole date. Shane thought the shoulder pads in my dress were awesome and I loved that his plaid mismatched (which I picked intentionally) and I got the pants 4 inches too short for him!'
She continued: 'We just played around with calling each other the fake names for fun. The best moment hands down was when we were walking in the restaurant, trying to keep our composure, and an older man looked in total disbelief but didn't say a word. And then once we passed he just started giggling.
'I think after it dies down a little we will probably do it again! Right now it wouldn't be much of a secret because everyone knows us as the Goodwill couple!'
Of course, after having such an amazing night, Noel just had to upload photos to her Facebook page, which saw the couple all dressed up for their date night
The post received 325,000 likes and 428,000 shares from people who absolutely loved the idea.
In fact, the photo went so viral that it actually found its way to Noel and Shane's server from their date night, who sent them a message to say how 'funny and sweet' they were on their date.
Since posting the photo, Noel and Shane have challenged other couples to follow in their footsteps, by sharing their own experiences of Goodwill Date Night under the hashtag #goodwilldatenight.
So far, many people have stepped up to the challenge.
